Strategic Partnership to Develop Waste Management in Amman

The Chairman of the Greater Amman Municipality Committee, Dr. Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, announced the signing of a strategic partnership between the municipality, through Amman Vision for Treatment and Recycling (AVTR), and three private sector companies to develop the solid waste management system within the capital for a period of ten years.

The announcement was made during a press conference held at the municipality headquarters in the presence of several officials, including Deputy Chairman Eng. Ziad Al-Raihani, City Manager Eng. Nabil Al-Jariri, and the CEO of Amman Vision for Treatment and Recycling Eng. Amjad Al-Anaswah.

The three companies will be responsible for city cleaning operations and the collection and transportation of waste to transfer stations within specific regions of Amman.

Al-Shawarbeh emphasized that the rights of sanitation workers, supervisors, drivers, and environmental staff will remain fully protected as a fundamental condition of the agreement.

Around 70% of the current workforce will continue working through the service providers, while 30% will remain directly employed by the municipality.

Two companies are scheduled to begin operations in April, while the third company will start in June through a five-month transitional phase gradually increasing operational capacity from 10% to full operation.

Financial studies indicate that the partnership could generate savings of approximately 130 million Jordanian dinars over the next ten years while creating around 2,000 direct job opportunities.
